Kinesiology tape

Kinesiology tape (often called kinesio tape, therapeutic tape, or muscle tape) is an elastic tape used in sports and physical therapy. It is designed to support muscles and joints without restricting movement, while helping reduce pain and improve circulation.

Main uses of kinesiology tape

  • Reduces muscle and joint pain by gently lifting the skin and decreasing pressure on pain receptors.
  • Reduces swelling and bruising by supporting lymphatic drainage.
  • Stabilizes muscles and joints, helping improve posture while still allowing a full range of motion.
  • Supports recovery from sports injuries, such as shoulder pain, lower-back pain, knee pain, or ankle sprains.

Characteristics

  • Elasticity of about 140–180% of its original length, similar to human skin.
  • Usually made from cotton or synthetic fibers; breathable and water-resistant.
  • Available in many colors, but the color does not affect its function.

When to use it

  • Muscle soreness from exercise
  • Mild sprains
  • Tendonitis
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Mild knee or meniscus pain
